Founder, Curator, and Girl Mom

Hi, I’m Darice, founder of I A’DORM YOU. It was during our mother-daughter college tours when I said to myself, “this is happening. My life is about to shift and I’m about to become an empty nester.” Nothing about this realization felt natural since I spent the last 18 years doing my most important job. Being Mom and loving every minute of it.

Suddenly I was at a fork in the road trying to understand what the new normal for my daughter and I would look like. How could I give my daughter her space to come into her own, stay connected and available to her during what would become the most pivotal and influential time in her life, to date? Short of being too clingy or a helicopter parent, what could I do to stay connected when she no longer lived in our home with me to guide her day to day? While it was an exciting time for us both, it hit me like a ton of bricks that though we were both embarking upon a new chapter in life, I now seemed to need her far more than she needed me.

So, the search began to find ways to send my college student daughter an expression of love, just because. To keep our close bond and stay connected I wanted to regularly send her something curated with her in mind that reminded her of me, of us, of home. Sadly, none of the subscription services I found were an authentic representation of me or my daughter Also, I knew I didn’t want to spend hours and days I didn’t have, searching for typical “care package” items. As a busy professional parent with a demanding career, I often work extended hours so my time is limited. I took the challenge of solving the problem of consistency and intentionality without sacrificing the quality of the box contents. My child does not do basic, and she gets that from me! Soon after my second “baby”, I A’DORM YOU, was born.

For parents, families and loved ones wishing to stay connected with your college student(s), I A’DORM YOU was created for you to send a gift of home.
